What is offset printing?

Offset printing is a traditional printing technique that uses aluminum printing plates. On these plates, the image or text is projected, with the ink attractors forming the image or text. The process works on the basis of greasy ink, which is transferred to the paper through a rubber cloth. This ensures a sharp and consistent print.

In offset printing, the paper is first moistened, allowing the ink to adhere only to the desired areas of the printing plate. This process is repeated for each color in the CMYK system, guaranteeing high quality and accurate color reproduction. Offset printing is especially advantageous for large print runs because the fixed cost per print job spreads out over multiple copies, lowering the price per piece.

The difference between offset printing and digital printing

Several factors come into play when choosing between offset and digital printing. Digital printing is ideal for short runs, personalized printing and short production times. Offset printing offers advantages for large runs, spreading the fixed costs per print job over a large number of copies, resulting in lower costs per piece.

When do you choose offset printing?

  • High volume print runs - Offset is more economical for large print runs.
  • For consistent quality - For large orders, the color and sharpness of the printed material remains uniform.
  • If your printing has specific requirements - Offset offers more options in paper selection and finishing.
  • For non-standard formats - Posters and packaging of large sizes are better produced with offset printing.

What does offset printing cost?

The price of offset printing depends on several factors:

The number of copies - The higher the print run, the lower the variable cost per printing sheet.

The format of the printing - Differing formats can affect the price.

Paper selection and finishing - Special papers or foil printing can increase costs.

How quickly can Jubels deliver offset printing?

The delivery time of offset printing depends on several factors, such as the print run, the type of printing and the desired finish. Because offset printing involves making printing plates first and transferring the ink to the paper via a rubber cloth, preparation takes a little longer than digital printing. However, for large runs, offset is often more efficient and economical. For smaller runs, a digital printing press can sometimes be faster. Contact us for an estimate of delivery time and the best printing technique for your project.

With offset printing, you can choose from a wide range of paper types. From standard coated paper to luxury uncoated paper with a natural look and feel. Also thicker cardboard types, suitable for packaging, and special finishes such as foil printing or spot-uv are possible. Depending on your application and the desired look, we recommend the best paper type for your printing.

Yes, at Jubels we offer the option of having a proof made before the full print run is produced. This gives you a chance to check the colors, sharpness and paper quality. Keep in mind that a proof with offset printing has a different process than digital printing, as it uses printing plates and a rubber cloth to apply the image to the paper.

At Jubels, we are committed to sustainable printing. We offer environmentally friendly papers, such as FSC-certified and recycled paper, and work with vegetable-based inks without harmful solvents. In addition, we minimize waste through efficient production processes. Do you have specific requirements for sustainable offset printing? We are happy to think along with you!
